Ground Floor
December 12, 2014 – March 29, 2015
Galleries 1 & 2, the Cleve E. Carney Gallery
and the Jackman Goldwasser Catwalk Gallery
Ground Floor brings together work by Chicago’s most promising emerging talent, offering a single destination to discover the spectrum of artists whose work demands to be seen and supported. Ground Floor—so named because it provides a crucial platform for young artists and fills the entire lower level of the Art Center—is an ongoing biennial project. Based on nominations by respected members of the arts community, Hyde Park Art Center’s Exhibitions Committee of artists and curators select work by recent graduates from each of Chicago’s nationally top ranked Master of Fine Art programs: Columbia College Chicago, Northwestern University, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, The University of Chicago, and the University of Illinois at Chicago.
The exhibition is co-curated by the Exhibition Committee including Dawoud Bey (Chair), Michelle Grabner, Caroline Picard, and Daniel Sauter, Allison Peters Quinn and other members of the Art Center staff.
An exhibition catalogue that increases the visibility of Ground Floor artists outside of Chicago willbe released during the run of the show. It will feature critical writing that allows artists to receive valuable, documented feedback about their work and will cultivate new critical voices.
2014 Ground Floor artists are: Evan Baden, Hannah Barco, Greg Browe, Houston Cofield, Maggie Crowley, Barbara Diener, Assaf Evron, Andrew Holmquist, Kelly Lloyd, Jesse Malmed, Esau McGhee, Ben Murray, Celeste Rapone, Kyle Schlie, Tina Tahir, Keijaun Thomas, Daniel Tucker, Ramyar Vala, Julie Weber and Nicole Wilson.
Get a first look at work by all 20 artists at the Art Center’s booth (# 814) at EXPO CHICAGO, September 18-21. For more information on EXPO CHICAGO, visit www.expochicago.com.
